Welcome to the 19th episode of The Leftover Popcorn Podcast! This week’s episode sees us discuss the critical and commercial success, Get Out, while we also look at trailers for some upcoming releases.

Leftover Popcorn is a weekly podcast dedicated to the world of moving pictures. Co-hosts Adam McGee (that’s me) and Andrew Snyder share a passion for everything, both weird and wonderful, from the world of television and cinema, and as such we’ll be discussing an eclectic mix of topics in the weeks and months to come.

The podcast itself is built with a very simple structure, with the hosting duties shared, each episode is built around a mixture of three or four regular segments. The segments rotate from week to week leaving discussion open to new releases in film and or TV, classics from both the big and small screen, broader discussions on influential figures and their work, previews of upcoming releases, and more.

Each segment is named after a quote from a movie or TV show that feature as a regular segue in our show, and hopefully will become familiar to you in time.

Anyway, that’s enough of an overview, let’s move on to what we have in store for you this week.

Before you dive in and start listening, let’s take a closer look at the subjects of this week’s main segments.

Get Out (2017) – Jordan Peele

The directorial debut from comedy sensation Jordan Peele sees a tonal shift into what the filmmaker describes as a “social issues thriller”.

With strong elements of horror and satire, Get Out is an eye-opening look at interracial relations, deep-lying prejudice and the indifference to racism that can often be as damaging as the act itself. Easily the most important and entertaining film of 2017 to date.

Fargo: Season 3 (2017) – Noah Hawley

Set in the world of the Coen Brothers 1996 cult film, Noah Hawley’s Fargo is set to return for its third series within the next couple of weeks. This time around Ewan McGregor heads up a stellar cast for a new story set in 2010.

Alien Covenant (2017) – Ridley Scott

Ridley Scott returns to one of his most famous works with Alien Covenant, the latest prequel in the Alien series. With a number of new faces making their first appearance in the Alien universe, the familiarity for audiences will come in the villains of the piece.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017) – James Gunn

Having emerged as something of a surprising smash hit in 2014, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 marks the return of Peter Quill, Gamora, Drax, Rocket and Groot, as James Gunn reprises his own spot in the director’s chair too

Be sure to return next week when we discuss Netflix exclusive films, The Discovery and Win It All.
